The 2023 PTCTC's Young Investigator Award is presented to Shruthi Suryaprakash, MD.


Dr. Shruthi Suryaprakash, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. 


Therapeutic base editing for Diamond-Blackfan Anemia


Dr.  Suryaprakash received her undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She received a medical degree and pediatric residency training at the DUKE-National University of Singapore Medical School in Singapore, then relocated to the US to enrich her training in research and academic medicine. In June 2022, she completed a 3-year pediatric residency training program at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She pursued clinical and laboratory research experiences throughout her undergraduate and medical training and joined the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the same year.  Shruthi’s interest revolves around pioneering gene editing therapies to address bone marrow failure syndromes, with an initial emphasis on Diamond-Blackfan anemia.
